Letrozole As A Treatment For Man Boobs
Medication is one option many men use to treat gynecomastia. The drug, Letrozole, normally used to treat advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women, is being used to treat gynecomastia in men. Like me, I guess you are wondering why. Well, I did some research and found out the theory behind why some doctors prescribe it to men who have man boobs.
Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. Aromatase is an enzyme responsible for a key step in the production of estrogens. The drug works by blocking the aromatase enzyme responsible for the production of estrogen. In short, if you have pure gynecomastia, where your condition is caused by a hormonal imbalance then Letrozole could be the drug for you depending on the cause of your gynecomastia.
Bodybuilders and athletes who take steroids, often use Letrozole, as it has been proven to reduce estrogen levels . Less estrogen in the body means less chance of estrogen-related side effects, such as gynecomastia. Letrozole is also used by bodybuilders as part of their contest preparation. It helps give them that highly prized dry and tight appearance.
The use of Letrozole to treat gynaecomastia is questionable. The drug may be effective in preventing and reversing gynaecomastia caused by steroid abuse when detection is early. However, for treating gynecomastia that is already established, it is unlikely to work.
Drugs That Prevent Gynecomastia
Other drugs also used to treat breast cancer, such as Nolvadex and Tamoxifen, have been proven to prevent the development of gynecomastia. However, these drugs will not cure gynecomastia. So these drugs are idea for young men who want to prevent gynecomastia caused by steroid use.
There is some speculation that Letrozole could be used to treat pubescent gynecomastia, but I have found no information on the Internet or in medical journals to support this.
Letrozole Side Effects
Letrozole is usually only prescribed to men who are undergoing testosterone replacement therapy.
As with most hormonal medication, it is a very powerful drug and has several side effects including:
- tiredness and headaches
- problems with cholesterol levels
- loss of sex drive
- nausae and vomiting
- muscular and joint pain
- hair thinning
- risk of osteoporosis
Final Verdict
There is a chance that Letrozole may reduce, eliminate or reverse existing gynecomastia, but treatment only seems to be successful with men who have steroid induced gynecomastia. According to various bodybuilding threads I have searched through many bodybuilders take Letrzole was a preventive measure to developing gyno (bodybuilder language) when they put themselves on a steroid cycle.
In my opinion, it would be safer to try the supplement Gynexin than Letrozole. You can read my Gynexin review to learn how Gynexin Alpha Formula works to eliminate man boobs. Alternatively, you could also consider gynecomastia surgery, if you are willing to take the risk and can afford it. In a nutshell, Letroloze has not been proven to cure gynecomastia. At best, it will only prevent bodybuilders and professional athletes from developing gynecomastia while they are on a steroid cycle
