Gynecomastia Medication

If you have enlarged male breasts then you have probably considered gynecomastia medication as a possible treatment. While there are no drugs currently on the market that specifically treat gynecomastia, there are drugs that can be used to prevent gynecomastia – Tamoxifen Citrate and Clomiphene Citrate

Tamoxifen Citrate
Tamoxifen is a oral medication that has been used for more than 30 years to treat breast cancer. It is is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer

The female hormone estrogen can promote the growth of breast cancer cells with cancer types that are hormone sensitive. Tamoxifen interferes and works against the effects of estrogen has on cancerous breast cells. This medication is know as an antiestrogen or a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator). It prevents estrogen binding with the receptor of cancer cells. This prevents the breast cancer cells from growing.

For men boob suffers Tamoxifen can be used to treat estrogen related gynecomastia, – that is gynecomastia resulting from imbalanced hormone levels where men have elevated estrogenic levels. It is also often used by bodybuilders who take steroids as a preventative gynecomastia measure.

Tamoxifen Citrate Side Effects

Like with most medication Tamoxifen has side effects, some of which are quite serious including:

  • blood clots
  • strokes
  • uterine cancer
  • cataracts
  • joint pain
  • leg cramps

Clomiphene Citrate

Like Tamoxifen, Clomiphene citrate is a drug original designed for women. It is a ovulatory stimulant used to treat ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovary syndrome in women. Basically the drug is fertility aid to help women get pregnant.

For men, the drug can cause natural testosterone production to increase. This effect is especially beneficial to bodybuilders and athletes at the conclusion of a steroid cycle when endogenous testosterone levels are depressed. Because of this Clomiphene is considered to performance enhancing drug.

Like Tamoxifen, Clomiphene is a SERM (selective estrogen receptor modulator) and hinders the way that estrogen acts, thus preventing male breast tissue growth.

Clomiphene Citrate Side Effects

Common side effects of Clomiphere include:

  • hot flashes
  • nausea
  • dizziness
  • headaches
  • temporarily blurred vision

If you are considering taking Tamoxifen or Clomiphene to treat your gynecomastia condition it would be wise to consult a health professional as these drugs were originally designed for women. The drugs also have side effects and may cause more harm than good if taken with other medication.

My research on these medications has revealed that they are generally used as a preventative measure rather than a gynecomastia treatment. If you already have a man boob condition then gynecomastia pills such as gynexin and gynemax may be a better alternative treatment as they are natural and are proven to reduce male breast tissue.
